Reporting from a Gaming Lull

After that onslaught of new game updates, I’m back on the other end of the spectrum. Sometimes I get in weird moods and play really random stuff. Playing the usuals is fine, but there are times when I just want some mindless distractions. This post is just documenting the nonsense I’ve been up to these past couple of weeks.

Let’s start with the normal games. This season in Destiny is winding down and there isn’t much to do right now. I secured the Flamekeeper title, I’ve been raiding, and I’ve been doing GM Nightfalls, but mostly, the game is feeling “meh” right now. There are always lulls in games though and I’m hoping with the new season, I’ll be ready to get back into it. Of course, there were some highlights, like ruining this Hunter’s day in Crucible.

As usual, I played the ish out of PowerWash Simulator and I’ve beaten the weird story. There were some MASSIVE areas to clean, but I did it! I even got my boyfriend to hop on co-op with me. As is expected, the first thing we did is attack each other with the water. We did a couple of the “special” jobs together, but I don’t think he’s convinced to invest time into it after he got messed up by the terrible saving mechanics of this game. Going from 75% complete to zero is enough to turn anyone off to a game.

I am still playing Pokemon Go, but not as thoughtfully as I have in the past. Leveling is such a grind that it’s hard to be motivated, but the recent Community Day event got me to play absent-mindedly. A couple shiny Zigzagoons and a weird pose I’m definitely not using was enough motivation. Plus, I was getting my hair done and that takes a couple of hours so why not spam catch some Pokemon?

Here’s where I get weird. I don’t know what I want to play really, so I started searching the Xbox store and decided to purchase some shallow games. The first was “Roll the Cat” which is pretty self-explanatory and not a game I can necessarily recommend. It’s just a top-down puzzle game where you roll cats into their beds. That’s it. I mean, if that sounds appealing, go for it, but it’s a short game and this clip is literally the entirety of the game.

After that, I was thinking about doing something like Tetris, but I decided to get a word search game instead. Again, pretty straightforward although this one is a big fan of really obscure words. The thing is, it doesn’t give you a word list, so you have to just look and find words. You’ll end up using every letter on the board so just look around and take a guess. Spoiler alert, “milf” wasn’t a word.

If a letter is greyed out, that means it won’t reappear in another word. If it is still dark after being accepted for a word, that means it will be used in another. It’s a nice feature that allows you to slowly see other words as you start to clear the board. Just because a word is a word, however, does not mean it will be accepted. For instance, “moisture” was the word here… but, the worst word, “moist” is not accepted because that’s not what the puzzle wants you to find. This game is called “Sixty Words by POWGI” if it is interesting to you.

Last, but not least, I just purchased a game called “The Sinking City” because I am a big Lovecraftian Horror fan. Although this blog is for my gaming, I’ll share that I read a lot and horror is my preferred genre. This game is based on Lovecraft Horror so I am hoping I’ll get into it, but I’m not too sure right now. There’s a lot of cutscenes and talking and the controls aren’t really intuitive to me. Also, there’s people here who look like the bug man from Men in Black. Tell me you see it too.

I’m going to give it a try for a while since I think the world looks cool and I hope they capture Lovecraft Horror well, but right now, it’s leaving a lot to be desired. The voice acting is not great and the facial expressions of people make it feel more comical than intended. I’m also not a huge fan of third-person views. I don’t know – I’m not holding my breath on this one, but I’ll try.

Anyway, what I’m looking forward to is the new season of Destiny and the new Plague Tale game in October. Otherwise, I don’t have much else to share. I’m getting closer to that random 60,000 Gamerscore goal I set for myself earlier this year, so that’s cool. I’ll report back on that soon. In the meantime, here’s a video of me being the worst teammate ever.
