Most of my Fallout 76 activities revolve around trying to buy plans, fishing, and making cute camps. If there’s a nuke, I’ll run around and get flora, but for the most part, it’s my own version of Animal Crossing. Recently, I ended up in a raid (which I thought was a mistake invite at first) and I was finally able to face off against some of the legendary fish in the game with my fully upgraded fishing rod. And the best part was, some of this happened serendipitously. I just happened to be in the right place at the right time.

Let’s start with fishing. My husband and I were server hopping looking for the best one to hang out on. My criteria is usually centered around, “are there camps with lots of plans for sale” and “are there nukes” – his is checking for nukes and telling me what public teams are available. Sometimes if I don’t have much to do, I just spend my time fishing in legendary locations and hope I get lucky. My fishing rod is finally fully upgraded so I actually stand a chance to catch them when they end up on the line. My first legendary fish was the monstrosity pictured above. I was here completing a daily and thought I’d stay a while. The first time this fish ended up on my line, I caught it successfully! You’ll know if you’re trying to catch a legendary by how painfully long it takes to reel it in.
I ended up catching a second legendary fish, but wasn’t setting out to do that originally. See, in our server hopping, we happened across a server with two nukes, but they were in uncommon locations. Someone nuked legendary fishing locations, which increases the spawn rate. One was where I caught my first fish… the other was in a place I’d tried and failed to catch previously. I thought this was the perfect chance to try again (since the last time I went, I didn’t have a fully upgraded line), and it all worked out pretty quickly.
Now for the raiding update… Last night, I was shopping as usual when I got a random team invite. It isn’t normal to get invites to a team – usually you just join a public team on your own. I accepted it and saw there were two people in a raid. I immediately panicked because it had to be a mistake. Why would they invite me? So I quit and joined another team, but they were also in the raid. I panicked again, quit the team, and joined the original to see if they’d realize their mistake and boot me. Instead, they started emoting for me to join them… so I did. I don’t really have a lot of evidence of this because I was shocked so here is my other legendary fish.

Something was fishy (hardy har har) because I ended up in the raid with too many people. I wasn’t complaining though. I’d never been in one and wanted to see what would happen. As you might suspect, I died immediately because I had no idea what was happening! But, they completed the encounter and I got rewards! I was super excited. After a while of people standing around and wondering if I overstayed my welcome, I wasn’t sure what was happening so I decided to leave the team. Suddenly, I received a party invite and I panicked again. I’m a girl and they will hear my girl voice and I am scared. I joined, they explained to me what we were going to do and I ended up back in the raid again. They taught me the mechanics of the encounters and I actually participated without dying. Not in this clip though. This clip is me being in disbelief that I’m here, having no idea what is happening and just trying my best before getting blown off the map.
The first time I did it, I got some cool rewards. I got a power armor helmet, a 4-star mod, and a plan for a statue of the ultracite terror. We also had a nuke dropped next to us so we did the boss fight there and I got this cute titan plushie plan. A random invite turned out to be a cool experience I don’t think I would’ve had otherwise.

Maybe I’ll end up trying more raid stuff in the future with them, but for now, I’m just excited to say I did it. Now I’ve got a vault to explore in the Goat Simulator 3 expansion with my niece so Fallout is going to be taking more of my time in more ways than one. That’s all for now! Back to more fishing.
ETA: Hours after posting this, I went and caught the other two legendary fish! Yay!
